A Mummy Makeover in Detail
A mummy makeover, or mommy makeover, allows you to combine different cosmetic procedures to target multiple areas of your body. So-called because it aims to restore the appearance of your body to its pre-pregnancy state, a mummy makeover typically includes breast augmentation/uplift, liposuction, tummy tuck, and labiaplasty or vaginal rejuvenation. The combination of procedures can be tailored to your own desired results.
If you want to target a few different areas of your body at one time, a mummy makeover could be right for you. Some of the benefits are:
– Having multiple procedures at once can mean less downtime is required
– Can help improve your self-esteem
– Helps you to feel more comfortable in certain clothing
– Getting rid of excess skin/fat can make it easier to exercise
Every surgical procedure has risks and side effects associated with it. A mummy makeover carries the following risks and potential side effects:
– Bleeding
– Infection
– Bruising
– Swelling
– Scarring
– Change in sensation in the targeted area(s)
– Asymmetry
Having multiple procedures at once requires general anaesthetic, which has risks of its own. You can read more about anaesthesia here.
The extent of your surgery will depend on which procedures you’re having as part of your mummy makeover. You’ll be given general anaesthetic, meaning that you’ll be asleep while the procedures are being carried out.
Some of the most popular procedures included in a mummy makeover include:
Breast augmentation/uplift
If you’re having a breast lift and implants at the same time, your surgeon will reshape and lift your breasts first. The implants will then be placed, and your nipples may be moved to a higher position.
Tummy tuck
A tummy tuck is a popular procedure that is often included in a mummy makeover. For this surgery, your surgeon will begin by making an incision across your abdomen. They’ll remove excess fat and skin, and realign your abdominal muscles if necessary.
Liposuction
Many people will have liposuction as part of their mummy makeover. Liposuction begins with your surgeon making small incisions in the targeted areas, then using motion and suction via a cannula to remove the excess fat.
Labiaplasty
If you’re having labiaplasty as part of your mummy makeover, your surgeon will make incisions in your labia to shorten and reshape them.
If you have a number of areas of your body that you’d like to address at once, mummy makeover surgery could benefit you. As this procedure involves multiple surgeries performed at once, you’ll need to be in good physical health and able to take time off from work/childcare to recover.
You might also want to wait until after you’ve had children and are not planning to have more before having this procedure, as pregnancy can affect its results.
Everyone recovers at a different pace, and your own recovery will depend on the procedures that you had as part of your mummy makeover.
Generally, you will need to take at least 2 weeks off work, depending on the nature of your job. You should avoid any strenuous activity, exercise and heavy lifting for at least 4 weeks.
After having a breast procedure, tummy tuck and liposuction, you’ll be advised to wear compression garments to get the most out of your results. Your surgeon will let you know how long you should wear these for.

Mummy Makeover FAQ's
Your mummy makeover will be tailored to you and the results you want to achieve. Some of the procedures you could have as part of your mummy makeover include:
– Breast lift
– Tummy tuck
– Liposuction
– Arm lift
– Thigh lift
– Vaginal rejuvenation
This will depend on your surgeon and the procedures you’ve decided to have. Some surgeons will do multiple procedures in one surgery, while others might space them out to give you adequate time to heal from each.
This will depend on which procedures you have chosen to have as part of your mummy makeover. While some procedures can permanently alter the targeted area, they cannot prevent ageing or the changes brought about by weight gain or loss.
Most people who have a mummy makeover choose to have it once their family is complete and they know that they are not planning to have more children. This is because pregnancy and childbirth can affect the results of a mummy makeover.
The extent of your scarring will depend on the procedures you have, but any scars should be minimal and easy to conceal. You can also help to improve the appearance of scars by using Vitamin E cream once the wounds have healed, and by keeping them out of the sun, as scars do not tan like the rest of your skin.
