Breast implant sizes aren’t simply like choosing a cup size, as you would if you were buying a new bra, though. There are quite a few factors to weigh up to achieve not just the size, but also the look that you’d like after treatment.
Everyone is different, and so what’s the right implant size for you will depend on the final look you’d like to have, your current breast shape, how much breast tissue you already have, and what your surgeon believes will best suit your frame. They’ll take all of these things into consideration to give you their recommendations for breast enlargement surgery – the size of implant, the implant profile (its width, and how much it projects from the chest) and the implant shape which they believe will be best to achieve the look and feel you’d like.
So although implant size is important, it’s a combination of these factors that will influence your new look breasts.
Try to think of the final look you’d like, rather than becoming a certain cup size, because how big your breasts will be isn’t determined by cup size! It’s measured by cc’s (cubic centimetres), and the higher the cc number, the bigger the volume of the implant and the larger your breasts will be.
Like you, your breasts are unique, and so even if someone you know has had a certain cc added during surgery, that may not be the right option for you. Although their breasts may look great, your body frame may be quite different.
At your consultation, your surgeon will ask you about the look you want to achieve and the kind of lifestyle you lead. They’ll examine you, take measurements, check that your skin has the required elasticity to take the weight of the implant, and generally check that your desire results are achievable.
While your surgeon can’t guarantee the cup size that you’ll achieve after surgery, as they’re extremely experienced in breast procedures, they can recommend specific cc’s which they believe will give you the size that you’d like.
If you’re suitable for surgery, your surgeon will make recommendations regarding the size, position and shape of implants that may suit you, and you’ll have the opportunity to try the suggested implants for size and weight before you make any decision.
So, to round up, here are just some of the things to think about when it comes to implant size:
- Consider your lifestyle: if you’re very sporty, a large implant size may not be easy or comfortable for you.
- Think about how you like to dress, because your new breasts will affect the way your clothes fit. Do you like to go bra-less from time to time – or all the time? If so, smaller implants may be better – but if you’d like to fill out clothes with bigger breasts, a larger implant could work for you.
- Are you happy with people remarking on your new figure? If you go larger, there’s more likelihood of people noticing.
- Remember that you’ll have your breast implants for 10-15 years before they need replaced. Consider what you may be doing in 5, 10 or 15 years – will your new breast size still work for you?
